ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEF IS A PRIVATE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION INCORPORATED IN 1942
BY THE SECRETARY OF WAR AND THE CHIEF OF STAFF. AER'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE
EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS.
Monies are for emergencies only. Emergency is a condition that arises suddenly,
is unforeseen and urgent, and requires immediate attention.
Who Does AER Help?
All soldiers that have 30 or more days of orders, retirees and surviving
spouses.
What can AER Do?
Help with emergency financial needs for necessities of life. The would
include rent, utilities, food, car repair, car insurance, essential travel, pay
problems, medical expenses and funeral expenses.
What can't AER Do?
We are not a bank or a credit union. Needs have to be classified as an
emergency.
AER funds are totally donated by retirees, active and inactive soldiers, and
civilians. None of the funds come from the government. The kind of assistance
that can be expected is interest free loans, and in special conditions grants
when soldier is unable to repay loan. In 2003 AER assisted 49,000 Army people
with more than $34 million. To receive assistance call Army Relief Officer, at

Soldiers can also receive assistance from the American Red Cross and from any
military installation in the world.
